Running a marathon

Next up

I feel better - The ice packs have definitely helped, and I've steered clear from running since Sunday morning.

I'm going to try to run a few miles this evening - I'm hoping everything will be okay. If all goes well, I'll try for an hour tomorrow. This Saturday isn't a very long day - only 10 miles - so technically, it's an "easy" run.

My marathon is in about 6 weeks - April 28. I still can't believe it...but I can't wait to get it behind me!

Problems

When I woke up this morning, I noticed that both of my legs were sore - and my right leg pops whenever I take a step (especially on inclines.) Not a good feeling. When I met up with the group, I mentioned the popping to someone, who then informed me that it's my achilles tendons - again, not a good feeling, and definitely something you don't want to injure.

I've been banned from running for a few days, and am now using ice packs like crazy. I only have about 6 weeks left for training - now is NOT a good time to get hurt!

18 miles turned into something different

Set out this morning to run 18 miles - with a 10k race mixed into that. We met at Weaver Park, ran a mile to downtown (the start of the race) and then proceeded to run the Shamrock Run - 10k race. The race was a little over 3 miles up a steep road, and then downhill. It wasn't fun for me. I really took my time - I had 10 miles to run after this!

After the race, we ran back to Weaver Park, and then started on our remaining 10. It didn't work so well. The wind was terrible, it was freezing (we even ran in some flurries), and people were starting to get hurt. We decided to go ahead and call it a day, and meet back at the park on Sunday morning. I ran 2 more miles so another girl could finish her entire workout (she's training for the half, and only had to run 10 miles today). I was a little sore when we finished, but nothing I can't get over.

10 more tomorrow.

I can SO do this!

We ran 16 miles today. 16 MILES! I couldn't believe that I actually ran it. I felt pretty good (with the exception of this cold I've started to get) right up until the 15th mile. Then, I felt like I was falling apart.

But, still. I'm more than halfway there. I only have 10 more miles, and I will have run my marathon.

Who would have thought I would be running 16 miles?

Sick.

I'm getting a cold. Not a good thing when you have to run 16 miles tomorrow. Think good thoughts that I can get over it quickly.
